Coffee® by Sweden
Espresso – clearly brings your reference to the Mediterranean parts of Europe. You can picture yourself a quick stop in a bar for a perfectly brewed Espresso and a nice talk to neighbors and friends. Well, this picture has very little similarity to the Nordics. Yet, we are the biggest coffee consumers in the world. For a long time, Sweden was the secondly largest coffee consumer per capita in the world, only beaten by Finland who consumed 12 kg per year/capita in 2019. That is for sure a serious amount of coffee cups!
The Swedish coffee culture did become well-known worldwide after the Millennium Trilogy, by Stieg Larsson, where crimes were solved while drinking a numerous of cups of coffee.
And this is how the coffee consumption looks for the many in the Nordics. A couple of cups in the morning, a cup for every meeting in the office (and we do have a large number of meetings every day ;)),finishing off with a cup of coffee after dinner. Yes, the coffee sipping procedure is never-ending.
With this heavy consumption you of course become picky with quality and flavor. Swedes love to complain about the taste of other countries coffee, and the biggest complain normally goes around the poor strength of foreign coffee.
So, when capsule coffee was introduced to the Swedish market it made total sense to create a Swedish brand offering capsule coffee with a Nordic coffee profile. During the years, Sjöstrand has tried out a number of different flavors but we believe that our current palette is the most well-fitted collection with a very clear Nordic profile. The most popular flavors tend to be N°1 Espresso and N°3 Lungo, but the newly introduced N°5 Espresso & Lungo has quickly become a challenger. And what have made us even happier is that the Nordic coffee profile seem to be appreciated world over. Do we dare say that the biggest consumer makes the best expert?
At Sjöstrand we continue our work to offer sustainable quality coffee for the selective consumer. Coffee that offers nothing but great taste. Our next mission is to find a complementary flavor to our collection. We know there is a strong demand for an even more intense Espresso with rich bitter aftertaste. We say – challenge is accepted.
